New York: A recent survey has revealed that Americans are the most active in ‘window shopping’ on the internet.
You might be familiar with the concept of ‘window shopping’ which involves browsing and leaving without making a purchase. Now, people also engage in ‘window shopping’ online spending hours looking at various items.
Social media users scroll through clothes, shoes, hotels and other things often unaware of how much time they are spending.
Speaking to foreign media, 40-year-old Beth Martin said, “Whether it’s a multi-million dollar house or a branded bag worth thousands of dollars, I may not buy these things, but I do enjoy looking at them. For me, it’s a form of daydreaming.”
The term ‘dream scrolling’ has emerged to describe this online window shopping. An American financial services company ‘Empower’ recently conducted a study on ‘dream scrolling.’
The study found that Americans spend approximately two and a half hours daily on internet window shopping or looking at things they want to buy. This amounts to an American spending 873 hours annually on online window shopping.
Rebecca Rickert, Head of Communications at Empower said that it serves as a store for people’s dreams where they can visualize homes, vacation spots or post-retirement lifestyles.
